It's burnout not necesarily related to being 'gifted'. However, I think the idea/article is missing another type of burnout, the one that I have experienced more recently. I had a teacher that once or twice would tell my class we could do great things in the future, but it was to encourage us to keep going (because we (my high capable classmates and I) were socially ostracized a bit at my school and needed the reminder) Kids in high cap programs are told they have great potential etc, but this isn't always a bad thing. I was fortunate to have parents that praised my hard work and dedication, not my natural talents.
